Sling.com - Watch TV Comedy Online

Sunday November 30, 2008
The Funny Site of the Day -- Sling joins the big time video platforms with a huge array of television and short clips for free Internet viewing. The comedy category is well-stocked with current high profile series, including 30 Rock, Saturday Night Live, Late Night With Conan O'Brien, The Simpsons, Family Guy, Monk, How I Met Your Mother, The Office, and My Name Is Earl. Older programs range from Arrested Development, The Ben Stiller Show, and Friends to Bewitched, The Partridge Family, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, WKRP in Cincinnatti, and Gilligan's Island.

Sure, many of the titles are readily available elsewhere, but there is a wide base of availabilities and lots of the packages include complete episodes. While Sling is known for its Slingbox gadget which allows live TV broadcasts on computers, the Sling comedy described above does not require a special apparatus other than the Flash player plug-in which you probably already possess.

Carol of the Chins - Subservient Chins

Friday November 28, 2008
The Funny Site of the Day -- Time to chin and hear it.
"It's Carol of the Chins! Christmas carols as you've never seen or heard them sung before. Enjoy these holiday songs from your friends at Sundog. You'll laugh. You'll cry. You'll wonder how did they do that? And why can't I stop watching?"
Many of your favorite seasonal hit parade classics are given lips service, including "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," "Jingle Bells," "Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer," "Silent Night," "The Little Drummer Boy," "Deck the Halls," "Here Comes Santa Claus," "The Christmas Song," "Silver Bells," and "White Christmas."

Simply type in your musical requests and the chins will serenade you from their snowy wonderland. They're just kids, so they don't know all of the melodies. Therefore, I had to do without my favorite Christmas tunes: "The Chipmunk Song," "Boogie Fever," and "Disco Duck."

Snowball Warfare

Wednesday November 26, 2008
The Funny Site of the Day -- Here's an excellent online slugfest for battling marauding troops in a winter wonderland.

Personally, I use this game as my warm-up before tackling Christmas sales down at the outlet mall.

Ruined Photos

Tuesday November 25, 2008
The Funny Site of the Day -- "Ruined Photos is a collection of photos that turned ugly as the shutter shut."

Gee, even the best images of me look ruined, but I get their gist. Bad snaps often provide big grins as you'll see in this funny gallery displaying more than 300 frozen-in-time bloopers.

Many of the glimpses are just unfortunate moments gone screwy, but others focus on "photobombers (aka boneheaders)," those guys and gals who seize the shot to drop trou or go grotesque in the background.

Oh, so there's a name for me: photobomber. I did that in every picture I ever posed for my mother's camera and developing outrage. Hee hee. I'm a little stinker.

Expect the unsuitable-for-work exposures.

Yearbook Yourself

Monday November 24, 2008
The Funny Site of the Day -- Yes, you've been clamoring to see them for years, so today's your big day. Give thanks for these, my 1962 and my 1996 high school yearbook photographs.

(I had trouble passing the Latin, OK? Ubi est lunch? I was aces in lunch.)

So, face facts, you can't be like me, but you can strive to be like me. Give thanks for that, too.

Here's how. Visit Yearbook Yourself and easily upload your actual headshot to see how you might have appeared in the school archives during any year from 1950 to 2000. They'll dress you and do your hair. You'll have to get your own date for the sock hop.

Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster

Sunday November 23, 2008
The Funny Site of the Day -- "His Noodly Appendage" ruleth thy Earth.

The church has become a growing, fanatical presence on the Internet in recent years. Checking back in and hiding from the offering plate, we discovered the ongoing procession of photographs and witnesses bringing a noise, often joyful, usually without garlic bread.

It all started with an "Open Letter to Kansas School Board:"

"I am writing you with much concern after having read of your hearing to decide whether the alternative theory of Intelligent Design should be taught along with the theory of Evolution. I think we can all agree that it is important for students to hear multiple viewpoints so they can choose for themselves the theory that makes the most sense to them. I am concerned, however, that students will only hear one theory of Intelligent Design.

"Let us remember that there are multiple theories of Intelligent Design. I and many others around the world are of the strong belief that the universe was created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster...."
Are these people sauced? And, if so, marinara or meatballs?

You decide.

Santa's Snowball

Saturday November 22, 2008
The Funny Site of the Day -- It might seem a tad early to feature a Christmas item, but anything on the Internet having to do with "those pesky elves," as Santa refers to them in this Flash game, is popular at all times of the year.
Shockwave's elf-portrait of their adventure: "Ho-ho-ho! Santa's elves are running amok and you've got to capture them all. Roll your giant snowball around and run over all the elves before time runs out."
Fortunately, I keep a PC or a Mac handy on top of my giant snowball freezer.

Here's a sampling of the user reviews posted about Santa's Snowball at Shockwave:
  • "Brilliant game, good fun, hard but very funny with the little elves!" --Kate
  • "slap-your-sister funny!" --iDog
  • "it needs sex" --dylan
  • Play: Santa's Snowball

Einstein the Parrot: The People's Pet Star

    Friday November 21, 2008
The Funny Site of the Day -- Animal impressions by the Knoxville Zoo's African Gray Parrot, which go a little something like this...

Oops, we're having audio difficulties, but over at Animal Planet, you can see -- and hear! -- Einstein clear her throat to unload amazingly precise renditions of a wolf, bird, owl, rooster, penguin, chimpanzee, pig, tiger, and (hold your breath) skunk! Plus, she's astute in the sound effects galaxy with a spaceship, a laser, and the action-packed "fall down" taking center stage in the big act.

Three video clips are presently in the rotation, ranging from good to evil. Einstein can be extremely evil.

    Turkey to Go

    Thursday November 20, 2008
The Funny Site of the Day -- Meet Turkster. He's the turkey. He's facing Thanksgiving dinner. To put it simply, he's plucked.

Your holiday challenge is to help him escape. Just grab all of the naked bird's feathers before the clock strikes "Feast!"

Funny Games, host of this Ezone adventure, adds, "If you make it past Level 5, Turkster will have enough feathers to cover his skin and return to decent Turkish society." And the gravy is you win!

Oh, one more thing: "Avoid the flying fork from below -- it will stop you."

I love sharing my life lessons with the kids.
