Born 1916: Frank Tarloff, screenwriter, wrote occasionally for "The Dick Van Dyke Show" (1961) and "The Andy Griffith Show" (1960) under a pseudonym, David Adler. His theatrical films include Cary Grant's "Father Goose" (1964) and Walter Matthau's "A Guide for the Married Man" (1967), based on his book. Died 1999.

Born 1928: David Ketchum, comic actor, known as Agent 13 on the "Get Smart" sitcom and as the announcer in the Roger Ramjet cartoons (1965). As a writer, he contributed to TV's "M*A*S*H," "Get Smart," "Love American Style," "Happy Days," "The Love Boat," "Sledge Hammer!" "The Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour," among others.

1938: "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," Walt Disney's first full-length animated feature, opened in U.S. theatres.

Born 1945: David Brenner, standup comedian.

1946: "Born Yesterday," Garson Kanin's popular comedy opened on Broadway. It was filmed twice, as the classic 1950 version starring Judy Holliday and 1993's with Melanie Griffith.

1994: The Jim Carrey movie star era began with the American release of "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective."
