1914: "Kid Auto Races at Venice" opened. The film featured the first appearance of Charlie Chaplin's "Little Tramp" character.

Born 1915: Eddie Bracken, comic actor, best remembered for his great films with writer-director Preston Sturges (1944: "The Miracle of Morgan's Creek," "Hail the Conquering Hero"). In "Vacation" (1983), he was Walt Disney lookalike Roy Walley, owner of Walley World. Died 2002.

1940: Walt Disney's "Pinocchio," his second full-length animated attraction, premiered in New York City.

Born 1962: Eddie Izzard, Emmy-winning British comedian and actor, specializing in transvestite roles.

Born 1966: Chris Rock, stand-up comic and actor, regular cast member on "Saturday Night Live" (1990-93). His films include "Lethal Weapon 4" (1998) and "Nurse Betty" (2000).

1974: Mel Brooks' "Blazing Saddles" opened in American cinemas. Before its release, the film was sneak previewed in drive-in movie theatres with free admission to all patrons on horseback.

1978: Ashton Kutcher, actor, star of "That '70s Show" (1998-) and several film comedies (2000: "Dude, Where's My Car?" 2003: "Just Married").

1993: In a TV movie, "I Yabba-Dabba Doo!" Pebbles Flintstone and Bamm Bamm Rubble wed.
