Born 1917: Sidney Sheldon, novelist and screenwriter, created TV's "I Dream of Jeannie." In the movies, he wrote "The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer" (1947), "You're Never Too Young," (1955), and "Annie Get Your Gun" (1950) screenplays.

Born 1919: Eva Gabor, actress, "Green Acres."

Born 1926: Leslie Nielsen, actor, "Airplane!" and "The Naked Gun" series.

Born 1934: Tina Louise, actress, Ginger on "Gilligan's Island."

Born 1936: Burt Reynolds, actor, "Smokey and the Bandit" and TV's "Evening Shade."

Born 1940: Bobby "Boris" Pickett, recording artist, "Monster Mash." It was a graveyard smash.

1942: "Archie" comic books first appeared on newsstands.

1960: Host Jack Paar walked off "The Tonight Show," when NBC-TV censors blocked a joke about a "water closet."
